Scientific name: Ciconia abdimii
The Abdim's stork is a black stork with grey legs, red knees and feet, grey bill and white underparts. It has red facial skin in front of the eye and blue skin near the bill in breeding season.
In southern Africa it is common to locally abundant in western Mozambique, Zimbabwe, northern and north-eastern South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. It generally prefers savanna woodland, grassland, pastures, pan edges, cultivated land and suburban areas.
It mainly eats large insects, doing most of its foraging on pastures, irrigated land and recently ploughed fields, usually in groups which split up to cover more ground.
